We are now fully immersed in our learning with the children starting to take on Year 6 responsibility roles. Our English focus is writing a recount based on our class novel 'Tyger'. The book is generating much discussion and raising issues that are stretching the children's thinking. Our best English lesson this week, undoubtedly, was our participation in the Guinness Book of Records Official Attempt at the World's Largest Poetry Lesson! We are eagerly awaiting the outcome. Rather more mundanely, mathematics has moved on to the topic of division: always a tricky one! Our skills focus in Science has been on observation and research. The children hugely enjoyed creating and classifying hybrid creatures last week, while this week we have looked at microbes including setting up an experiment to grow our own.
In history, the children have been fascinated to learn about the harsh working conditions of a flax mill in the 1800's and the gruesome injuries that children suffered. We were fortunate to welcome a member of the Humanist Society into our RE lesson this week, leading to a lively Q and A session. Two PCSOs have visited us this week, too, to talk to the children about internet safety. A most worthwhile visit. Meanwhile, our Spanish continues with learning our phonemes and in Art we are preparing our dogs to be transformed into 3D structures.
Now that the weather is truly miserable, can the children please come in with a coat. Unless it is pouring down, they will be outside! Finally, thank you to all those who came to meet the teacher. It was so nice to see so many of you and to share all we have planned for the year. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
With best wishes,
Ms MacFarlane, Ms Clemson and Mrs Povey
