As a special thank you for their wonderful instructional leaflets, the lion gifted Swan Class the story "Katie in London". Swans class have loved reading this story and exploring the landmarks of London. Over the last couple of weeks, we have written our own innovations of the story basing it on the places we know in Ashtead. We can't wait to read the finished results!
In Science, we have continued our exploration of different materials and their suitability for different purposes. In the last two weeks we have been designing and building our own contraptions, putting our learning into practise to see if we can protect an egg in a fall. We look forward to testing them next week. In Art, we have continued to investigate the influence of nature on art and explore different artists works and how they utilise natural materials. Swans have been trialling different drawing styles to record what they see around them, such as line drawing and still life focuses.
In Maths we have been developing our knowledge of numbers to 100 and building on our addition and subtraction skills. We have recently begun to learn how to use the column method which has been a fun challenge!
We very much enjoyed our Harvest Festival sing song and had some interesting discussions in class about why helping others is important and who we can go to if we need help in different situations.
Well done Swans for all your hard work so far. Keep it up!
Mrs Packham
This year we are continuing our use of Numbots in Year 2. Please access this at least 3 times weekly to build up their fluency and consolidate their learning.
All children should be aiming to read for at least 10 minutes per day. Do record this in their reading diary as they are monitored.
Each week your child will bring home a printed list of words to practise spelling at home.
At this point in the year there will not be handwriting homework. In Year 2 we are beginning to join up our handwriting and writing in cursive. You may choose to help your child practise this at home.
