The Robins had a fantastic time exploring the wonders of Nower Wood! Their day began with a peaceful walk through the forest, leading them to a picturesque pond. Under the expert guidance of our instructor, Ross, the children embarked on an exciting pond dipping expedition. Armed with large nets, they eagerly collected aquatic insects, carefully transferring their finds into large dishes for closer examination. Using magnifying glasses and identification sheets, the Robins worked together to discover the names and characteristics of their fascinating discoveries.
Ross then brought several examples back to the 'classroom,' where the children had the opportunity to observe the creatures in even greater detail using his powerful magnifying equipment.
After a well-deserved lunch, the Robins split into two groups and ventured onto a sensory trail. This immersive experience allowed them to explore the woods through their senses, prompting them to consider how insects might perceive their environment. The children engaged in activities that stimulated touch, smell, sight, and hearing, gaining a deeper appreciation for the intricate ecosystem surrounding them.
