This week's learning......
English - Continuing with our text, 'Letters from the Lighthouse', children have been writing balanced arguments considering whether the pilot who crashed outside the village should be helped or turned over to the authorities. They have then started to think about poetry and planning their poem about the Lighthouse.
Maths - Children have been learning about geometry and drawing acurate shapes using rulers and protractors. They have also been using their knowledge of shape to work out missing angles.
Reading - Children enjoyed world book day, dressing up, having a go at some book related activities and asking a published author questions about the writing process in a live workshop.
Geography - Children have been building their map reading skills thinking about six figure grid references to identify features on a map. They have then been using these observations to consider how the USA and UK generate electricity.
Science - For Science Week we have been setting up and monitoring a range of experiments in the classroom that include growing beans and cress and looking at the water movement through plants. They also enjoyed an exciting science workshop.
Upcoming learning......
English - Children will be writing their poems about the lighthouse and then moving onto plan and write a narrative from the book. They will be focusing on character description and progression.
Maths - We will be completing our shape topic by thinking about the position and movement of shapes and will then move onto looking at and interpreting different graphs and charts.
Geography - In Geography, children will be using the knowledge they have built about different types of renewable and non-renewable energy to write a letter to planners to advise on the best energy sources for a new housing project.
