Year 4 had an amazing Arts Week. the children began the week exploring the work of the polka dot princess, artist Yayoi Kusama, who uses polka dots as a theme in her work. They created their own masterpieces either painted or in clay , all with a polka dot theme. They also worked with the artist Sarah Eversfield to create printed patterns. They practised on paper then created patterns on fabric elephants, leaves and a background which they fitted together to make a scene. They also enjoyed learning Bhangra dance moves and later creating their own dances which they shared with the class. It was amazing to see how much they had learnt in a short period of time. Also, they used Google Arts and Culture to help them produce graphic scores. The art work that the children drew on the screen became a magical mixture of sounds reflecting the shapes and movements they created.
Also, they have been displaying our ukulele playing. On Tuesday 5th July, twenty one children went to the Fairfield Halls in Croydon , to take part in the Key Stage Two Music Concert. They performed in front of a packed audience and sang in the combined schools choir as well. This week, all the children performed for their parents and carers, showing how far they had developed our musical skills in just one year.
They have also been creating packaging as part of their Design Technology topic, created an advert for a new, exciting firework (from the Firework Makers Daughter) and have been revising fractions in Maths.
We can not believe that we are at the end of Year 4. Time has gone so quickly and the children have achieved so much. They have become more independent, had wonderful adventures and learnt the skills they need to flourish in Year 5. Well Done Year 4 and best wishes for Year 5.
