School Games- Gold Mark

School Games inspires young people to be physically active for life through positive experiences of daily activity and competition. The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.

We are pleased to announce that today we have been awarded the Gold Mark for our contribution to providing both daily activity opportunities but also a wealth of clubs and competitions for the children to engage with.

A big thank you to Mr Warner for continuing to source a wealth of opportunities for us to be involved in.

News from this week....

Activities have been varied and all have based around the theme that 'We are all artists'.

The children have been sketching, taking part in author workshops, joining others for live stories, taking part in performing arts workshops, and much more.

Take a look at the class pages to see what your child enjoyed.

Trip to Wimbledon

A lucky group of our Year 5 & 6 pupils won tickets to enjoy an incredible trip to watch tennis at Wimbledon this week! A wonderful opportunity that was provided by @the_LTA Youth & Schools Wimbledon Ballot 2022. Thank you, @LEOsports7 for entering us! The children had a great time not only watching tennis but taking in all the other activities Wimbledon has to offer.

Year 4 Trip to High Ashurst

This week the majority of Year 4 went to High Ashurst on their residential. The children spent three days taking part in outdoor learning activities, they slept overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday in tents and tried some activities that encouraged them to 'take one more step'.

The children were impeccably behaved and we were so proud of how they encouraged each other to face their fears on so many levels. They demonstrated resilience, determination, teamwork, trust, understanding, independence and much more!

For the year 4 children who stayed at school they also had lots of fun taking part in fun activities such as cooking, local area walks, biscuit decorating, art and much more!

What a great few days! Take a look below.

Year 6 Leavers Show - Pirates of the Curry Bean

This week Year 6 presented their end of year show to the school earlier on in the week and their parents/ carers on Thursday. The children were simply sensational. The acting, singing, dancing, props, sound, and lighting were all of a high standard and we were so impressed with them all. End of year shows take an awful lot of hard work and we know just how much each of them put into it.

It was a great way for them to end their time at Shawley and we have lots more to look forward to over the next two weeks.

As Year 6 will be in Isle of Wight for the last week of term, they will be celebrating their leaving events next week.

Tennis Tournament

This week a group of Year 3/4 children attended a tennis tournament at Kingswood Tennis Club, hosted by Active Surrey.

The children had a great time and demonstrated such brilliant skills on the court.

Watch out for future Wimbledon players!

Year 5/6 Girls Football Friendly

This afternoon our Year 5/6 girls played a friendly against St Mary's. They drew 1-1 but all of the team worked hard and gave 100%.

What a great team!

Shawley Fundraisers

Shawley's school lottery has been set up specifically to raise money and make a difference for our children! It's a fantastic way to bring parents, carers, staff and the wider community together, in partnership with our school, and at the same time give something back. We hope to raise funds that can support and enrich the education of our children - we aim to provide extra resources for the children, improve the school environment as well as run extracurricular activities such as music, art and sport.

Join today! Click here to access the Your School Lottery website to learn more about how it works and how to join.

Your support is greatly appreciated and we wish you good luck!

Penalty Notices

Just to remind parents/carers that if they take their children out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), they will be liable to receive a penalty notice.

Currently the amount payable under a penalty notice is £60.00 per parent/carer per child if paid within 21 days. Thereafter the amount increases to £120.00 if paid between 21 and 28 days. If the penalty notice remains unpaid after 28 days, the Local Authority will consider a prosecution in the Magistrates Court.

Please note that penalty notices are issued per parent/carer per child so a family of two parents and two children will receive 4 penalty notices.
