Greta The Great
This project is inspired by the actions of Greta Thunburg, teen activist, in making her voice heard by a global audience. Over 5 lessons, your children will research, write persuasive letters and take a stand on the issue of global warming.
Designed to challenge children to be informed and think about their responsibilities, your class will also write, perform and film their own class video in response to current events. Children will then share their class video with your school community to help promote awareness of this issue and challenge them to help, whilst simultaneously celebrating their literacy. You can do this in a whole school assembly. and by publishing it in an online school newsletter. The project covers Geography and Science, as well as ICT and literacy curriculum objectives.
We have produced this Home Learning Pack for schools, teachers and parents. Inside you’ll find:
- Short extracts from classic texts linked to nature and animals to read, enjoy and interpret
- Editing and correcting spelling and grammar activities
- Activities linked to vocabulary, synonyms and antonyms
- Drawing and illustrations tasks and challenges
- Colouring in
Please feel free to download, share and use!

Malachi and Libby were both worried about making new friends. They talk about the challenges of moving to secondary school without existing friendship groups. Malachi found that joining a sports team was a great way to meet like minded people. Libby shared her concerns with her teacher and was encouraged to be brave and present a project in front of her entire class which helped her grow in confidence.

Whether you’re learning about China as part of your curriculum or wish to simply test their independent research skills, this is a fun little activity that will provide plenty of inspiration and curiosity for primary school students.
If you’re a teacher, you can certainly use this research task as part of a pre-planned lesson (whether live-streamed or pre-recorded). Alternatively, use the worksheet as an independent task, having all students come together later on to discuss their findings.
Parents can also use this worksheet to keep children busy independently for a while. You may wish to prepare some resources they can use to do their research, such as website links and videos (we’ve suggested some below), or using the ones provided from their teacher (if relevant).
Afterwards, be sure to discuss their findings with them using the questions/thought prompts we’ve provided below. Ask them to make a note of anything they do not understand so that you can provide more information on it later.
With mindfulness and mental health being introduced in more and more classrooms, Litfest have created a free writing project, supported by Headspace content, to help start your journey. Access here: j.mp/BreatheKS2

Homeschool Pop is a jack of all trades in the educational YouTube channel–sphere. We’d say it’s aimed at the younger age bracket of KS2, although there is some useful content for 10-11 year olds. Covering topics from maths to history to geography to biology and even social studies, there isn’t much this channel hasn’t explored. Again, it’s American – so if you’re reading this elsewhere, be aware that some subjects may not match your local curriculum – but it’s a great all rounder to boost your child’s general knowledge.
Describing itself as “Science with a side of awesome”, Crash Course Kids is a fantastic way to engage your younger children in the exciting world of science. Covering topics ranging from habitats to space to chemical reactions, the producers of this show have one goal: making science fun. Whilst it is an American channel, much of the content will apply to any children currently working at KS2 – and all kids who have an interest in how the world works.

Students can be filmmakers in this fun, engaging project that teaches graphic design, photography, the prototyping process and more. I’ve created the unit plan, lesson plan, and rubrics for this project-based learning experience that brings together the graphic design concepts I teach in my class. They are uploaded to Adobe Education Exchange and make a perfect 16-day unit that you can adapt for your class.
