Year Five have been working hard these past two weeks across the curriculum
We were fortunate to be visited by Jo from The Dogs’ Trust who spoke to the children about reading the signals dogs give us to communicate. The children learnt a lot and made promises to be a good friend to a dog in the future. They have brought home postcards with their promises on to show you.
In English, they have been applying their writing skills to their scientific work, through their disciplinary writing. They produced high quality non-chronological reports around the Solar system and should be able to tell you lots of facts about the planets.
As Mathematicians, they have been continuing their work on fractions, including ordering them. The children have discovered that having a really strong knowledge of their times tables has really helped them with this work so please continue to practise on times table rockstars as often as you can.
In Art, the children have been making their own sketchbooks out of reclaimed materials. They found this fun and enjoyable and are looking forward to working in them.
In History, we have explored the concept of democracy through looking at the Ancient Greeks. The children debated whether they would have preferred to live in Athens or Sparta, with the majority of them preferring the more peace loving state of Sparta. We also used a ‘Now press play’ activity to bring their learning to life, which was a lot of fun and involved role playing an enslaved child from the time.
Reading Diaries
We would like to remind you that all children should be reading at least 5 times a week. Reading more together is incredibly beneficial and it will help the children in school, especially in their English lessons!
Chrome Books
Chrome books should be brought to school and charged, every day.
