Year 4 have come back from our Eater Break ready to learn.
Year 4 are using the book 'I talk like a river' by Jordan Scott which explores how a young boy feels about his stutter and how he is able to accept it to inspire our writing. We have predicted what we think the book will be about and then explored how the main character feels at various points in the story. We have begun our next writing journey in which we will write a blog as the main character in our story. We have looked at the features of a blog, explored similes and metaphors and revised the use of commas in our writing. Next week, we will plan and write our blog.
In Reading, we have begun our new book The Firework-makers's Daughter by Philip Pullman. It is the story of Lila, the daughter of firework-maker Lalchand, who wants to become an expert firework maker so goes on a quest to do so. We have focused on using our prediction skills to predict what will happen in the text and what the characters will do next. We have also retrieved words from the text to answer questions.
In Maths, we have begun a new unit focusing on position and movement We have explored common triangles and quadrilaterals and described their angles and sides. We also explored symmetry, identifying lines of symmetry on figures and shapes and completing symmetrical patterns. We explored locating a position using coordinates and translating the position of points and shapes. We have also completed a unit about Roman Numerals and have practised reading and writing numbers to 100 .
In Science, we have begun with our new topic Classification and changing habitats. . We have sorted animals into vertebrates and invertebrates using a Carroll diagram and a Venn diagram. We then explored different ways to group and classify plant.
.We have begun a new Geography topic, What are rivers and how do we use them? topic, We have revised the water cycle and looked at the importance of rivers in that cycle. We have also discovered the three courses of a river, upper, middle and lower and can name features of each of the courses. We can define each of these features.
