What have Year 6 been up to this week:
Year 6 has been busy exploring a range of exciting topics over the past two weeks!
In Science, we've delved into the fascinating world of evolution and inheritance. Children have been investigating different types of variation within organisms, carefully considering whether these variations are influenced by the environment or inherited from their parents. We've also explored family trees, unravelling how and why offspring inherit specific traits from their parents based on their inherited genes.
Our English lessons have been focused on honing our grammar skills in preparation for this week's exciting narrative writing task. We've been paying close attention to the use of dialogue to effectively convey character and propel the action forward. The children have thoroughly enjoyed stepping into the shoes of their characters to determine which elements of speech they will incorporate into their creative pieces.
In Maths, we've embarked on a journey into the realm of ratios. We've been comparing ratios, learning how to convert them into percentages and fractions. This has involved some challenging problem-solving, and the children have risen to the occasion with impressive mathematical thinking.
Our History lessons have transported us back to the tumultuous period of World War II. We've engaged in thought-provoking discussions about the origins of the war, linking these events to the Treaty of Versailles. The children have demonstrated a keen interest in understanding the complex historical events that led to this global conflict.
You should spend at least 30-45 minutes completing the homework grid per week. We would prefer you to complete your home learning and submit it onto the Google Classroom. You may complete it on paper if required.
In total, you should spend between 1 hour and 1 hour and a half on your homework.
Spelling tests will be every Friday
Reading diaries will be checked every Monday
