What a fantastic start to the Spring Term in Year One, even if the weather hasn't been too Springy.
Dear diary, in Literacy we started our new and thrilling book, Meerkat Mail, this book has shown us the journey of Sunny the Meerkat on his travels to experience life outside of his home. He visits family and cousins to find out he rather enjoys his home in the Sahara Desert. We have been learning about how to create a diary entry, as if we were Sunny on his travels. Remembering our Days of the Week, capital letters, full stops and the date at the top.
In Mathematics we have been learning about equations. We have been experimenting with addends and minusends. What an achievements these two classes have had with their understanding of the subtraction and addition equations. We even learnt what an expression is and using the correct mathematical terminology.
In Art we have been experimenting with paint as our media. We got the chance to paint our hands in paint and place them in our own creative way in our sketch books. This is only the beginning of our project! This past week, once our hand prints had dried, we drew small and detailed flowers over our hand prints. Such beautiful artwork was created!
In History we have been focusing on toys, a class favourite. We have been learning about how toys have changed over the past 100 years. We looked at materials used to make toys from the past, such as wood and our toys in the present being made from plastic. We will be learning about how we can find out about the toys made in the past by speaking to our adults and grandparents or reading a history book.
In Science we have been exploring the Human Body and our five senses. we focused on naming all our different body parts and this past week we explored outside using our sight and hearing. We even heard an aeroplane without seeing it, due to cloudy conditions. We practised using our hearing to distinguish animals and object sounds and our sight to test colours and objects in the classroom.
In R.E we have been exploring Hinduism with our learning goal to understand who God was to Sanatanis. We looked at different personalities and using string to show how we are all connected as a class. This was such a lovely activity!
Since starting Spring term, we have been spending our Friday monrings exploring and expereincing Forest School. We had our first tour of the area last week and had our first lesson this week! What a blast!
It has been a lovely start to the new term!
