Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have settled quickly back into the routine of school and have been knuckling down to some serious hard work.
Writing
We have worked very hard when writing to entertain. Both Moonstone and Onyx have produced lovely narratives, describing the setting of Bear Island, from our new novel 'The Last Bear'. The children thought of imaginative expanded noun phrases and interesting vocabulary to bring their narratives to life. They also applied their learning from grammar lessons, through including relative clauses and a range of parenthesis.
Maths
For the last two weeks we have been looking at fractions. We have looked at finding fractions of amounts, converting between mixed number and improper fractions and we are confident at finding equivalent fractions and particularly enjoyed playing the equivalent fraction game with a partner.
Science
In Science we have started our new topic on space. The children should be able to name and order the planets according to their distance from the sun. They particularly enjoyed acting out the heliocentric model of the Solar system in the playground.
History
Our new History topic is called 'What did the Greeks ever do for us?' The children have found out about the different periods in Greek history and acted as historians, placing these periods chronologically, on a timeline. Through their research, the children have learnt about the Greek Gods. Ask them how many they can remember and what their special powers were!
Reading Diaries
We would like to remind you that all children should be reading at least 5 times a week. Reading more together is incredibly beneficial and it will help the children in school, especially in their English lessons!
Chrome Books
Chrome books should be brought to school and charged, every day.
