Happy New Year!
We are delighted to welcome year 6 back for their second term in year 6.
English
We have kicked started English with a new novel - Letters from the Lighthouse. Year 6 have enjoyed making predictions about the book. The children have also been busy learning about why speech is used in narratives. They have been looking at how they can add speech to convey character and adave the action into their own writing to make it more engaging for the reader. They have worked really hard as this is a very tricky concept.
Maths
In maths, year 6 have began a new topic - measurements. The children are able to covert between centimetres and millimetres, centimetres and meters, meters to kilometres, milometers to miles and grams to kilograms.
Humanities
In Year 6, we have began a new topic 'A Child's War'. The children worked together to create a shared fact file all about key events that occurred during the years World War II took place (1939-1945). They used these ideas to create their own fact files. Their inquisitive minds for this topic is noteworthy. Lots of great questions and discussions throughout.
Art
The children have had lots of fun this week looking at different drawing techniques. In the first lesson, the children completed continuous line drawings. They looked at two french artists creating drawing with just one continis line. The duo who call themselves DFT draw familiar jobs like trainers, animals and hands. Year 6 then took on the role of these artists and had a go. In the second lesson, the children completed 'backwards and forwards' drawings. The work they created turned out beautifully. Take a look at some of the examples.
PE
Year 6 had lots of fun during their real PE lesson. They worked on dynamic balance to agility - jumping and landing. They put these skills to good use by enjoying a game of 'Jump Ball'.
