We have been informed by the local police that there has been a rise in outer clothing and mobile phones being taken from individuals, predominantly from Secondary School age.
As a preventative measure, we wanted to make you aware of this for your child/children with regards to the wearing of high-value outer clothing and displaying their mobile phones when out in the community.
A huge well done to Chloe in Amethyst class for the best entry in the Met Police Christmas appeal poster competition from Brookfield Primary Academy, as chosen by PC Lambert, who came in to school to personally congratulate and award Chloe for her fabulous entry. Well done, Chloe!

The University of Warwick is running a study on children's language development at Brookfield Primary Academy and invites children aged 5 to participate. We are interested to know how children's language is affected by what they hear around them. As part of this study, participating children will play a game of 'Snap!' with the researcher and describe fun drawn images appearing on a computer screen. Please click on the link below to find out more and to sign up.
This week EYFS and KS1 parents will have received an email explaining about the changes to our home reading. We are pleased to be in a position to send REAL books home for the majority of our reading squad groups. Unfortunately we are still having to assign a minority of texts as an e-book but are hoping that all the books will eventually be sent home in book bags.
May I please stress again the importance of taking great care of the books and ensure that they are returned every week as requested to enable the continued smooth roll out of our reading squad groups.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Holmes (Reading and Phonics Lead).

Count on us Maths Club
This week we started our Maths club for children in Years 4 and 5. Our enthusiastic mathematicians are looking forward to working in teams to solve a range of puzzles which will improve their mathematical skills in a fun way. At the same time, they will develop other qualities such as team work, resilience and perseverance to achieve a goal. This week we practised the 24 Game and made shapes with Tangrams.
Each week, a child in each class will be rewarded with a certificate for their efforts to contribute to one of the articles in our charter.
For more information about the rights of the child click here.
At Brookfield we are on our journey to achieve our Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award and children will continue learning about the rights of the child.
This week we have been thinking of article 2 which states that all children have rights, no matter who they are, where they live, what their parents do, what language they speak, what their religion is, whether they are a boy or a girl, what their culture is, whether they have a disability, whether they are rich or poor. No child should be treated unfairly on any basis.
All children have the same human rights as adults. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child sets out the additional rights that all children have until the age of 18.
Article 2 says 'No discrimination':
The government has a responsibility to make sure your rights are protected. They must help you and your family to protect your rights and create an environment where you can grow and reach your potential.
Please discuss this article with your child and let them reflect on the following:

Twitter/Facebook are also the only form of communication shared by the staff when the KS2 children are away on residential trips - seeing how much fun the children are having makes missing them not quite so bad, the children definitely do not look like they are missing home!
Please note that we only share photos of children who have photo permission and we only ever use their first name. Also, we do not keep the photos that we share so if you see a photo of your child that you would like you can save these onto your own device by clicking on the 3 dots on the photo and selecting save. Also if you see a post that interests you, please can we ask you to share/retweet.
If you would like your child to be included in our social media posts, please ensure that you have consented to social media. If you are unsure please look at your child's profile on the Arbor app and contact the school office if you wish to make a change.
