Welcome back Year 3 and Happy New Year! On behalf of the year 3 team, we hope you all had a wonderful and festive time off. The children have all settled back in to school really well and have shown great enthusiasm in the new year!
We have started our new humanities topic of Ancient Egypt! So far we have explored the famous River Nile and the importance of it. The children were very inquisitive and wanted to research more about the uses of the Nile. We also looked at the cities that the Nile passes through. We will continue to look at Ancient Egypt and how it has changed over time.
To continue with our topic, in our writing, our new text is 'There's a Pharaoh in our bath!' The children have shown a great interest in the story and are thrilled to read more. So far, we have focused on the characters and describing their features, both for the characters appearance as well as their personality. The children have generated some wonderful ideas to describe.
In maths, we have started to learn a new method for solving division questions with larger numbers. The children have been using a catchy acronym to help them remember the method - Does McDonald's Serve Cheese Burgers? (divide, multiply, subtract, check, bring down). This has been really helpful for the children to remember what step comes next in the method.
Just as a reference point, we have also started to look at rocks and fossils in science, Egyptian art, hockey in PE, looking at networks in computing as well as zones of regulations in PSHE.
