Year 3 have plunged headfirst into their English lessons this term, inspired by the captivating book "Akimbo and the Elephants." Over the past two weeks, our young learners have been immersed in the world of poetry, exploring its rhythm and rhyme, all while delving deeper into the fascinating lives of elephants. Their creative juices have been flowing, and they have crafted their own beautiful poems about these majestic creatures. We have been truly impressed by their imaginative descriptions, thoughtful observations, and the heartfelt emotions expressed in their poems. It's been a joy to witness their enthusiasm and passion for both reading and writing, and we are excited to see how their literary journey unfolds as they continue to explore "Akimbo and the Elephants" and the wonders of the natural world.
Year 3 has been busy laying the groundwork for their mathematical journey this term! We've begun with an exploration of place value, delving into the world of ones, tens, and hundreds. They have been developing their number understanding by making numbers bigger and smaller, jumping by 1s, 10s, and even 100s! This week, we've taken our first steps into the exciting realm of addition. We're starting with simple addition problems to ensure everyone has a solid grasp of the basics. But get ready, because we're about to level up! Soon, we'll be tackling addition with renaming, even with two 3-digit numbers. It will be a challenge, but we're confident our young mathematicians are up to the task.
Year 3 has kicked off their science journey this term with a fascinating exploration of animals and humans, and we've started by getting up close with the human skeleton! We've been learning about the different types of bones in our bodies and their crucial roles. Our young scientists have been fantastic at remembering the three key reasons why our skeletons are so important: protection, support, and movement. We've also ventured beyond the human body to discover the amazing diversity of skeletons in the animal kingdom. From the hard, external exoskeletons of insects to the internal endoskeletons of mammals like us, Year 3 has been captivated by the different ways animals are built for survival.
Year 3 has embarked on an exciting historical adventure, traveling back thousands of years to explore the Stone Age, Bronze Age, and Iron Age! We've been charting our course on a historical timeline, discovering where these fascinating periods of time fit in the grand scheme of history. We've also delved into the concept of BC and AD, unravelling the mystery of how we measure time in relation to a significant historical event. The children have truly impressed us with their ability to grasp these complex ideas and place key events in chronological order on a timeline. It's clear that we have some budding historians in our midst! As we continue our journey through the past, we're eager to uncover the secrets of how people lived, worked, and thrived in these ancient times.
We cannot wait to see what learning comes next! Stay tuned!
Children are expected to complete the following:
At least 5 reads in their reading diary each week
Century will be coming soon! A piece of maths and English homework will be set every Thursday with a due date of the following Monday. The homework will appear at the bottom under 'assignments'. The pathway at the top is suggested additional work that can be worked through as and when but is not an expectation to be completed.
Times table rock stars does not have to be completed daily, but it is encouraged to practise as much as possible.
Children are not expected to do Century and Times Table Rockstars every evening at home, but little and often is ideal! Thank you for your support :)
Please note, the inside of the reading diaries have changed. There are dates on each page and a 'homework' section on the left hand side but please ignore these. Please see the image below of how to insert the reads into the new reading diaries.
