Year 1
Year 1
Hello! Welcome to Year One's contribution to the newsletter! Firstly can I say a massive thank you to all of your gorgeous children who have been AMAZING settling into Y1. We are on the go from the minute they set through the door and it's been a busy start to our halfterm.
It was lovely to meet so many of you at the parent's meeting and we look forward to working with you to ensure your child lives their best Year One life!
In Literacy we have been exploring 'The Shopping Basket' by John Burningham. The children have enjoyed finding out about the shady characters in the story and we took turns acting out the story, dressing up or using masks to be the different characters. The writing has focused on making lists - shopping and animals in the story and our final piece will be an independent list. This is giving the children a great opportunity to apply thier phonics knowledge segmenting to spell the words.
In Science, we are learning about the four seasons and had great fun working in groups to make mobiles for each of the seasons. The collaboration during this activity was incredible - we were very proud of the children's interactions not to mention the mobiles that each group produced!
In maths, we are counting to 100 already and looking at patterns in the numbers and their position on a numberline and hundred square grid. Get dancing with Jack Heartman - forwards and backwards as you count and exercise!
Art has started with a swirl - circles and spirals have been all the rage!
