Thurs, Nov 19: Complete the rest of the worksheet from today and start chapter 6 in your text.
Here is the link to the demo of a black hole https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTY1Kje0yLg (Ok, Ok, he's modeling the universe or a solar system, but same idea!)
Tues, Nov 17; You have completed the first half of chapter 5. Please finish the rest of the chapter and do the self-test.
Tues, Nov 10: Complete the remainder of the objectives for Chapter 3 and do all of Chapter 4 (The Sun).
Fri, Nov 6: Read Chapter 3 from section 3.1 through 3.4. Answer the first 8 objectives for the chapter.
Good news: I have been in touch with the Stellafane people and they will get back to me soon about field trips to the observatories or other possibilities.
Wed, Nov 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goL3K_xQzbE Watch and take notes.
Fri, Oct 30: Make sure you have read Chapters 1 and 2 of your textbook and written your answers to the objectives.
Fri, Oct 23: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NU2t5zlxQQ Welcome to MinutePhysics!
Wed, Oct 14: Complete the epicenter activity for the page with 5 cities of data.
Wed, Oct 7: Research a geology or astronomy question of your choice. Summarize where you looked and what you learned, in your own words. Submit to me on Google Drive.
Tues, Oct 6: Continue watching "Particle Fever."
Mon, Oct 5: Start watching "Particle Fever."

Aug 27: Have your parent or guardian sign your textbook signout sheet. Return it to class tomorrow.
Aug 28: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-50WF5LHuH0 (Properties of minerals - about 5 minutes)
Watch and take notes in your field notebook, using Cornell notetaking, which I will show you today. You should be ready to describe mineral properties to me on Monday.
Aug 31: Read in Chapter 2 "Matter and Minerals" the sections on "Physical Properties of Minerals", "Mineral Groups", "Common Silicate Minerals", "Important Nonsilicate Minerals," and "Mineral Resources." Create an outline of notes from the book: Use the colored headings and subheadings they provide. I will get you started in class.
Sep1: Two tasks for tomorrow:
(1) Have your notes ready to tell us about your topic.
(2) Be ready for a "pre-test" of Ch 2: Physical Properties of Minerals, Mineral groups,Silicates, Non-silicates. I suggest flash cards. See my suggestions from yesterday.

Read the next text chapter about igneous rocks. See you next Wednesday!
Sep 9: Listen to Dr. Shorey's podcast on Igneous Rocks and follow along with the powerpoint. See the link above for the podcast. The powerpoint is linked in the files below.
Sep 10: Write at least one paragraph summarizing what we learned today about the Townshend Rock Stabilization Project. You could include (a) the history of the rock formations (500 million years ago to now); (b) the types of rock you find as you go east to west along this exposure; (c) what the stabilization project is and how it will work.
Sep 11: Read the text chapter on Metamorphic Rocks. Answer the Concept questions posed at the beginning of the chapter as a way to guide your reading.
Sep 14: Begin reading the chapter on volcanoes, answering the bulleted concept questions. We will continue the film on the Yellowstone supervolcano tomorrow.
Sep 15: Verify your availability for a field trip the rest of this week. Plan on an igneous and metamorphic quiz on Friday.
Sep 16: Review your igneous and metamorphic chapters. I have a powerpoint presentation on the geology we saw today on our field trip for tomorrow.
Sep 17: Read "The Geology of Vermont" pages 218-222 up to "The Taconic Mountains." Read for understanding the main ideas. Make note of words you don't understand. We will discuss tomorrow.
Sep 18: Field journals will be due next Monday. Metamorphic makeup test Monday. We will also wrap up the earth history movie so we can better understand the "The Geology of Vermont" .
Sep 22: Finish listening and notetaking "Volcanoes" with Dr. Shorey.
Sep 23: We read up on marble quarries and studied the generalized geology map of Vermont.

Sep 24: Finish the chapters on Weathering and Sedimentary Rocks, taking notes to answer the concept questions.
Sep 28: Plan on having a quiz on sedimentary rock and weathering/erosion on Wednesday. Let me know if Tues and/or Thurs are available for field trips this week.
After September, I will begin posting HW at the top of the page each night.
