The LEIGH Learner Attributes

The LEIGH Learner attributes are underpinned by the IB learner Profile.

Throughout all aspects of Academy life we will provide opportunities for our students to grow into diverse individuals who embrace and master the LEIGH Learner attributes, preparing them to be highly successful in their career paths beyond the Academy.

We expect that students become highly knowledgeable and reflective, with a thirst for learning across a range of subjects, excelling in the disciplines that they are truly passionate about for example the Sciences, Arts or Sports.

Students are expected to play an active role in creating a caring, open minded community within which diversity is embraced, success is celebrated and respect and integrity are modelled at all times.

Student Code of Conduct

LEIGH Learners will follow our Student Code of Conduct at all times modelling exceptional behaviours to their peers both within and beyond lessons. The Code of Conduct is outlined below:

As a principled learner of Leigh Academy Rainham I will...

✓ Be an aspirational, resilient and reflective learner who is always punctual and prepared to learn

✓ Take responsibility for my own appearance, property and actions and graciously accept any consequences for not meeting academy expectations with regards to these

✓ Act with integrity and honesty at all times, producing my own work independently in line with the Academic Honesty Policy

✓ Strive to develop a range of personal attributes and learning skills that enable me to be a highly successful lifelong learner and globally aware citizen

As a caring member of Leigh Academy Rainham’s Community I will…

✓ Respect other people’s feelings, space, cultures, beliefs and property, always acting in a manner towards my peers that is deemed as appropriate

✓ Conduct myself calmly, orderly and quietly in and out of lessons, respecting the safety and learning of others

✓ Be courteous at all times by greeting people, saying ‘please and ‘thank you’ and offering to help anyone in need

✓ Respect our environment, by not creating litter and encouraging others to do the same

✓ Proudly celebrate the achievements of my peers, recognising that we are all striving for success

✓ Use academy equipment and resources responsibly, recognising they are there for everyone to benefit from

✓ Show compassion by alerting a member of staff if I witness fighting, bullying, harassment or any form of unkindness to others either in the academy or online.

✓ Report the presence or use of any banned item to ensure the safety of our community

Student Code of Conduct Card

All students are issued these and expected to have them on their person at all times in their bag / blazer pockets. These will be used to monitor and reward exceptional LEIGH Learner behaviours at all times in our community.

Establishing Excellence in Lessons

All students at LAR will follow the same expectations in lessons, growing into highly principled learners, who value their education and strive for excellence.

Students are expected to follow our routines, with guidance from our teachers, so that lessons are purposeful and impactful, supporting them to make excellent progress!

10 Steps to Establishing Excellence in Leigh Academy Rainham Lessons...

Line up in silence with the correct uniform and coats off
Enter the room calmly and greet the teacher
Sit according to the teacher's seating plan
Copy the title, date, learning objective and answer the register
SLANT at all times (Silence, Listen, Answer Questions, Never Interrupt, Track the Teacher)
Complete all activities immediately
Respond positively to all instructions and feedback
Clear your desk and return all borrowed resources
Stand behind your chair and wait in silence to be dismissed
Thank your teacher as you leave!
