Maya Angelou was an acclaimed Black American poet, storyteller, activist, and auto biographer from Missouri. Despite experiencing a series of harrowing events in her childhood, she overcame her own fears and anxieties to flourish, developing a broad career that included writing singing, dancing, acting and composing.
The disciplines linked to Angelou College include the Arts and Literature which are situated on the first floor.
Mrs Holmes is a Vice Principal, and the Head of Angelou College.
Mrs Holmes has a first class degree in English Literature and Film and is passionate about Shakespearean tragedies and Victorian gothic literature. She enjoys reading books, watching films, visiting galleries and going to the theatre. Mrs Holmes leads arts subjects at Leigh Academy Rainham including English, Art, Drama, Music and Dance - she has been known to cry during performances by students as she always feels so proud!
Mrs Holmes is responsible for curriculum and examinations in the academy and is committed to ensuring that all of our students have a wide variety of academic and vocational courses to choose from. Mrs Holmes is supported by two Assistant Principals who are both called Mr Collins!
The Angelou college colours are gold. Students will wear the same uniform across the colleges except for the gold founders tie and gold braided blazer.
