Upcoming Theme of the Fortnight: Developing Communityship: "How and why is volunteering important?"
Principal's Message
We are very much looking forward to the Winter Wonderland event next Wednesday and hope to see many of our families supporting this event. Year 7-9 forms have been preparing resources for the stalls and we have a number of market stalls attending from the local community. Mr Clark and Mrs Rowe have invested a lot of time working with our students to create an entertaining show for you and we hope this will be well supported so please do buy your tickets on ParentPay if you have not yet done so and bring cash on the night for the children's stalls.
I was very proud of our year 9 students who last week had their first ever exams week experience. Despite this being a change of environment for them in which to complete assessments they managed this well with maturity and we hope that this had helped to relieve any future fears they might have had about sitting their formal KS4 qualifications in this manner. We look forward to seeing how they have performed in their assessments going forwards!
Year 10 students who study vocational courses (Travel & Tourism, Business Retail and Life Skills) were given a special assembly this week about the value of these courses and how they are preparing them for the workplace. Mrs Plant took the students off timetable with their teachers for an hour to talk through the potential careers such courses can lead to, the importance of their coursework and how these courses relate to the world of employment. They were given some practical scenarios to wok on in groups to help students appreciate what skills they are developing and how they can apply these to real life situations in Medway. If your child is studying one of these course in year 10 please do speak to them about what they have taken away from this session and how this will help them in their next steps.
I look forward to seeing many of you next Wednesday at the Winter Wonderland,
Mrs Cramlington
Principal

If your child is having a Christmas dinner on the 18th December, you will need to pre-order this via ParentPay. Once we have received this payment, we will add this to our spreadsheet. The deadline to pay for this is the 11th December. After this date, we will not be able to accept anymore payments as the kitchen staff need to order the food from their suppliers. The meal costs is £3.70 which includes both a main meal and dessert.
If your child is Free School Meals then you don't need to purchase this as they will be catered for.

Communications Home - My Child at School and Emails
Our parent governors provided feedback this week that communications have been coming home 3 different ways which has understandably caused confusion for some families. This is not our intention and we have spent time this week unpicking the reasons for this with the My Child At School Software that we use.
We would like to clarify:
General announcements should be coming to parents on the 'Announcements' section of the MCAS app, not as messages or emails. This should ensure everything is in one place and we will continue to use expiry dates on our announcements so that this platform does not become cluttered.
Personalised communications will be sent home as emails as we are unable to send announcements in this manner and we will use announcements on MCAS to signpost parents to when emails may have been sent home so parents know to check inboxes.
If you would like further support on how to use the MCAS app please do refer to this parent guide.

Sporting Activities
Take a look at the new cheerleading club. Look at them go!
Year 9 Exams
A massive well done to our Year 9s during exam week, you all did so well. Keep up the good work!
Student Libarians
A big thank you and well done to our student librarians who ran their own meeting today about improvements they would like to make to the library. Exciting innovations include a new student-run library magazine and even more terrific activities for World Book Day.
Achievements in Art
We are pleased to commend our Year 8 artists for their exceptional observational self-portrait drawings. The progress they have made in their drawing skills is impressive, particularly in their understanding of the proportions of the face. Each artwork demonstrates a strong attention to detail and a deepening ability to observe and interpret their own features. Their hard work and commitment to refining their craft are truly commendable.
We look forward to seeing how they continue to develop their artistic talents in the future. Well done, everyone!
Proud Friday

Online Safety
Online Safety for Kids: Using Built-in Parental Tools
As children spend more time online, it's important to keep internet safety in mind.
Keeping children safe online doesn’t have to be complicated. Built-in tools on iPhones and Android devices make it easier for parents to monitor screen time, set app limits, and filter content. Here’s how to get started:
For iPhone Users: Apple’s Screen Time lets you manage app limits, monitor daily activity, and set content restrictions. You can set this up directly on your device to track and limit your child’s usage.
For Android Users: Google Family Link helps you manage apps, set time limits, and see your child’s location. It’s ideal for younger kids and easy to control from any Android device.
These tools provide a practical and straightforward way to stay involved in your child’s online life.
