Principal's Message
Last week we welcomed our school Governors in for the day to observe lessons, meet with students and our new staff. They had an overwhelmingly positive day visiting year 10 lessons to see the progression of our new KS4 courses, seeing our new practical subjects like Dance and Music Technology in action. The Governors met with both year 7 and 10 panels and were pleased to hear that all children felt safe, that students were happy in school and knew where to go if they had an issue. Students highlighted they are enjoying the breadth of subjects, particularly at KS4 and feel supported in lessons. The new staff that Governors met with are all experienced individuals who have worked in a variety of settings. They were considerably positive about the systems and routines we have here, the expectations we have for children and way we build relationships compared to previous establishments they have worked at, which is always reassuring to here! Overall this was a very successful visit and if you are interested in joining our board, or know someone who might be, please do contact the Academy.
Thank you to all the parents who came to the year 7 and 9 Parental Workshops on Thursday 10th October that were run by the the Kinglsey Teaching and Learning Leadership Team. These carefully planned events were designed to help support parents with their children's home learning experiences and we hope for those that attended you found them useful and informative. If you were unable to attend the resources from the events can be found in our Academy Updates below.
We very much look forward to greeting all of our year 10 students and parents at the Year 10 Expectations Evening on Monday 14th October - this is a crucial event to attend for you child to ensure a successful start to their KS4 journey. The Angelou Leadership team have thought carefully about what information parents will need to support their children and help them secure the grades they are capable of.

Year 10 Expectations Evening
We have added into our calendar an information evening for all year 10 parents on Monday 14th October. A letter with all the information regarding this event will be sent to parents but please ensure you have saved this date to attend and know the time for your college slot. It will be an important evening outlining what you need to know about your child's courses, coursework and exams and how to support them through KS4. With approximately 60-70% of each KS4 course being completed in year 10, and the remaining in year 11, year 10 is a crucial year for students and we want to ensure we are working in partnership with you all to help them to be as successful as possible.
Year 9 Parent Workshop: Revision Strategies and Improving Knowledge Retention
Please see attached the resources that were delivered by the Teaching and Learning Team during this event here. We would also like to remind parents that after half term, Year 9 will be sitting their Exams Week on Monday 18th November 2024 to give experiences of what KS4 and GCSE exams will look like.
Homework Club
Please note that Homework Club is for students who require help with their homework. This means that our expectation is that students will arrive with homework to complete. We expect those who do attend to remain in the club until it officially ends at 4pm like any other after school activity. Students will not be allowed to leave before this time as there is no-one to see them off site. Please be aware that any students who disrupt the homework club, like any other club will be asked to leave.
Student Safety Walking Home
We would like to remind families to encourage their children to always walk in groups or with a buddy at the end of the day to stay safe, especially with darkening evenings. Also another kind reminder that we recommend that the children come to school wearing a coat as it starts to get colder throughout this time period. To support families we would like to remind you that our students can have non-smart phones to contact home should they be worried at any time, we encourage families to invest in these if they have not done so already at a reasonable cost of £12 - £20.
Activity studio and Sports Hall Footwear
We kindly ask that parents ensure children have clean trainers for lessons in the sports hall and activity studio (not dirty/messy). If they're dirty then we will need to ask them to remove these before they enter these rooms to avoid making the floor slippery for other students. Pupils must wear clean trainers or go bare foot as they will be liable to slip over if wearing socks.
Conduct Cards
We have had an influx of students stating their conduct cards have been washed and are arriving to school without these. We kindly ask that parents and carers remind students to check their pockets for these before they are put in the wash. Students requiring new ones are given detentions.
Hello Yellow Mental Health Day
On Thursday 10th October we raised £110.50 for 'Hello Yellow Mental Health Day'. Well done to everyone that was wearing a yellow accessory on this day. Please see attached some links below for more information about 'Hello Yellow'.
