School Gardens:
Exceeding Expectations
The amazing success of the School Garden program has allowed students all across the district to learn real world skills and cover Florida standards at the same time. Students in our district have created innovations that exceeded any expectations, such as a solar powered irrigation system. Thanks to our generous community partners, dedicated educators, and most of all the wonderfully innovative students of Lee County, over 10,700 pounds of food went into student meals last year.
Project Victory Gardens began with the COVID shutdown, as EE supported the use of school garden produce to feed families. We gave out over 3,300 plants to families and taught them how to grow their own food, as well! Our new program has expanded that to allow schools to produce their own fresh produce for student menus. Ten focus "Farm to School" schools, and five other schools are working to accomplish this. Over 75 other schools are gardening in some way to support student learning!

Solar Tower Project
In this initiative, students across the district have a chance to work with solar-cell technology, brought to you by the Environmental Education Department of Lee County and our community partners. They have used solar cells to provide all the energy needs of their school gardens' aquaponic and hydroponic systems. Contact us to get involved!
Gardens provide project based learning:
They promote understanding of multiple STEM field standards, as students practice using them in the real world.
