The effective use of an interdisciplinary unit while engaging, differentiating, and incorporating multiple standards is achievable! This IDL includes multiple Georgia Performance Standards across the subject levels (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Agricultural Science). It will also include learning targets, success criteria, domain-specific vocabulary, do nows, activating strategies, mini-lessons, work sessions, and collaborative STEM projects. Effective data teaming and lesson planning contributes to developing a well-rounded unit that successfully incorporates all subject areas. The presentation will demonstrate a project-based, technology-enhanced, cooperative learning interdisciplinary unit using a novel. This unit prepares students for identifying and understanding figurative language in context, characterization, identifying the author's purpose, drawing evidence, point of view and constructing a written response using TEEC (a graphic organizer for constructed responses and body paragraphs) as well as covering other multiple standards. In addition, this will prepare students for narrative writing. Science will focus on transfer of heat, hydrological processes, and sustainability, with an Agricultural science focus on plant growth with hydroponics. Social Studies will cover climate and environmental issues, while math will focus on analyzing statistical data and graphing.
