The Writing Revolution
The Writing Revolution (TWR) by Hochman and Wexler provides a clear method of teaching writing. It is as much a method of teaching content as it is a method of teaching writing. Some of the strategies you will learn in the upcoming challenges will help turn weak writers into strong communicators by focusing on specific techniques that match their needs and by providing them with targeted feedback.
This introduction to the 6 basic principles of The Writing Revolution (TWR) will give you the background knowledge you need to implement some TWR strategies with your students.
Sentences are the basic building blocks of writing. Students practice sentence level activities such as identifying fragments, unscrambling sentences and correcting run-ons.
This activity will guide your students to create complex sentences. It will prod them to think critically and deeply about the content you are studying. And it will provide you with a check of your students’ understanding of the topic at hand.
Students can write more complex and interesting sentences by using appositives.
