At HGE we are shifting to an online format for our field study forms. You will now receive emails regarding field studies and signing digitally - please check your junk boxes often so you don't miss out. If you have any questions about any upcoming field study for your child, please connect with your child's teacher.
Thank you for your incredible support during our recent Book Fair! Whether you shopped, volunteered, or helped spread the word, your support made a big difference. Because of your generosity, we have earned a great commission that will go directly to purchasing new books and resources for our school library.
Congratulations to our Book Fair Door Prize winner Ariana R who won a $25 gift certificate as well as her teacher Mr. Aka and our four $15 gift certificate winners Dominic G., Saige, Ariya and Emmanuel.

As a school community learning about Truth and Reconciliation, classes at Helen Gorman from Kindergarten through Grade 5 took part in a special activity called the River of Reconciliation. We talked about why we wear orange on Orange Shirt Day, and heard stories that help us understand what life was like for Indigenous children, who were taken to residential schools. Each of us chose a powerful image, word or phrase that shows how we can help with healing and understanding. We painted our rock to be placed in the Rock Garden, to create a “River of Reconciliation.” This reminds us that every child matters, and that our words and actions can bring truth, respect, and kindness to our community.
As a reminder, we thank you for your continued support with the provincial requirements outlining the use of cell phones and personal digital devices at school settings. We’ve noticed a few students wearing smartwatches that have access to variety of games and apps as well as the ability to connect to the internet and send text messages to family and friends. If your child has a smartwatch that includes the above, please remind them that these games are not permitted while at school. Additionally, if you and your child need to be in contact with each other in the day, please call the school at 250-870-5116 extension 0 to leave a message that we can pass along as they are not able to receive these text messages within the instructional day or respond back via text. You can read about it more in our Family Handbook on page 7. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jessica Anjos at jessica.anjos@sd23.bc.ca or by contacting the office.

Childminding @ PAC Meetings
A friendly reminder that childminding during PAC meetings is available only for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5. Childminding is offered through HGE PAC in the school gym and students are supervised by interested Grade 5 students. If you have a responsible intermediate interested in babysitting please email the PAC at hgeparents@gmail.com. Please know that the grade 4 or 5s who do take on this important role of "babysitters" during these meetings, do so knowing they are caring for younger children and having older middle students attend can make it challenging for them to lead with confidence. While we value connections with middle school students, we ask for your support in keeping childminding limited to children in grades K–5. If you have any questions, please contact the HGE PAC President, Dani Walls by emailing hgeparents@gmail.com. Thank you!
