Safety Reminder: Crossing Streets Safely After School
We’ve received some important feedback from several community members about student safety during after school as children on walking home. There have been several close calls involving students running into the street without checking for traffic, particularly near Gates Road and McMurchie Road.
We kindly ask all parents to remind their children of these key safety steps:
Always stop at the curb.
Look both ways before crossing.
Make eye contact with drivers and wait for them to signal that it’s safe to cross.
While these incidents are happening off school property, student safety is our shared priority. Thank you for helping reinforce safe walking habits with your children.

This week on Wednesday, May 14, Mrs. David's Grade 5 class participated in a special Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) activity led by Mrs. Kirkey and Mrs. David, involving some very special guests—trained therapy dogs and their handlers from the B.A.R.K. (Building Academic Retention through K9s) program at the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO)! The B.A.R.K. program is designed to support emotional well-being, reduce stress, and help students develop empathy, mindfulness, and positive social interactions—all through safe, supervised interactions with therapy dogs.
