New Opportunity! Check out the NEW Internship class in the program!
The Future Educator’s Pathway is a Career Technical Education (CTE) program designed to prepare students for a career in education. The program follows a progressive design to build a foundation for students to understand the theories and their practical applications in the K12 classroom. Students will learn skills, expectations, and foundational knowledge to begin their journey to be educators!
What is CTE?
This is a Career Technical Education course in the Education, Child Development, and Family Services industry sector. Also, this is the first course in the Education Pathway at Westlake High School known as the Future Educators' Pathway (FEP).
The course sequence will include Child Development, Foundations of Education, and, the capstone class, Advanced Teaching Practices Honors.
The Education Pathway is designed to prepare students for professional or learning support positions in education, prekindergarten through grade twelve. Students study human development; standards, regulations, and codes; positive guidance and counseling techniques; age-appropriate and grade-appropriate learning strategies; learning theories; and standards-based curriculum and instructional design. Students can apply and practice their knowledge and skills at a variety of elementary and secondary education sites.
One of the best perks of joining a CTE program is the extra funding we receive! All of the cool things we do throughout the year are funded through CTE grants! Here is a short list of some of the opportunities you'll have access to if you join this program...
