This summer, NYC Public Schools and DYCD have revised our enrollment approach based on feedback from families, CBOs, and schools. Our goal is to make Summer Rising enrollment more equitable, inclusive, and family-friendly. We know there is high demand for summer programming, and we are eager to provide Summer Rising to as many families as possible. This year’s enrollment process will:
Prioritize students mandated for summer school for academic reasons, Students in Temporary Housing and Students in Foster Care, students in 12-month IEP programs, and students with a local connection to the school-year CBO program or school community
Provide an application window during which families can take the time to sign up; families will not be advantaged or penalized based on when they apply, as long as it is within that window
Utilize an application portal, so families can apply from a cell phone or any internet-connected device in a matter of minutes
Allow families to rank multiple options in the application portal, so they are more likely to receive a seat in summer programming
Allow families to update/change their enrollment preferences and/or withdraw their application during the enrollment window
Please note, this year will not be a first-come, first-served approach. Families will rank multiple program preferences within the application window (April 17-May 1) and then will be assigned to a program, pending seat availability, using the prioritization described above.
Direct any registration issues to summer@schools.nyc.gov

(544 7th Ave, Brooklyn, NY, 11215)
The Program will begin on July 5th, and end on August 16th.
Hours of Operations:
Mon-Thu 12:00PM - 6:00PM
Fri 8:00AM - 6:00PM
What happens if my child(ren) is/are mandated for Summer School?
If your child(ren) is/are mandated for summer school, they will likely attend the Summer Rising Program that takes place in schools from 8:00AM - 12:00PM, and dismiss straight to our program from 12:00PM - 6:00PM. Mandated students are NOT required to attend summer camp, and can be dismissed from the school at 12:00PM if requested by parents.
Does my child have to attend Summer Camp everyday?
Attendance for the summer is not mandatory, and will not affect enrollment for the '23-'24 School Year (Sept 2023 - June 2024). Further discussions about scheduling will be available during the Summer Rising Info Session.
What is Summer Rising and what is Summer Camp?
Summer Rising is an enrichment portion that is led by the DOE schools - during these enrichment sessions, students will be participating in activities that will help them bridge the summer learning gap. Summer Camp is a program that is led by LEAP or other Community Based Organization (CBOs) that are stationed in buildings to engage children in fun activities that may or may not be tied to educational elements depending on the activity. Best way to remember: 8:00AM - 12:00PM is Summer Rising. 12:00PM - 6:00PM is Summer Camp. As per DYCD instructions, Summer Rising students are not required to attend Summer Camp, and Summer Camp requirements are not required to attend Summer Rising.
Is there a minimum attendance requirement?
No, summer camp is fully optional - should families have vacations scheduled, or weeks where their child cannot attend the program, it is absolutely ok! We just kindly ask to be notified ahead of time, during pick-up or even have your child inform a staff member.
What activities will there be for Summer Camp?
During the summer camp, we will have a series of activities for children to select from, including, but not limited to dance, theater, arts, sports, photography, and more. Each activity period will be an hour long, with a maximum of two activity periods per day.
Why do Fridays' schedule time look different?
Friday are the days in which Summer Rising is not in session, meaning Summer Camp will be running from 8:00AM - 6:00PM. Fridays are also our trip days, where students will have a trip to attend that Friday. Permission slips will be sent home to families prior to the trips. A gentle reminder that while Summer Camp is a place for fun, students with repeated behavioral concerns may be excluded from trips due to safety concerns.
Will food be provided in the program?
Yes, Summer Rising will provide breakfast, and Summer Camp will provide lunch and snacks provided by school foods.
When can I pick up my child(ren)?
You may pick up your child(ren) at any time during the Summer Camp Program. We encourage families to discuss with the Program if you would like your child to routinely leave the program before the scheduled dismissal time.
