The LEAP@MS51 After School program runs in Trimesters; An estimated 4-month Fall Session, 3-Month Winter Session, and a 4-month Spring Session.
Within each of these cycles, we offer a schedule that runs in the following manner:
15-minute arrival and decompression time
30-minute homework help time
1-hour period for activity choices #1
1-hour period for activity choices #2
15-minute dismissal
Within each of these schedules, we offer alternating activity days - Monday & Wednesday, Tuesday & Thursday, and Club Fridays.
Within each of these activity periods, we offer 4-6 different activity choices for students to choose from. These activities vary from sports, to the arts, to STEM. Students are provided the option to rank their top 3 choices for each period slot - totaling 6 different activities each week for each cycle!

MONDAY / WEDNESDAY COURSES
Soccer is a SPORTS AND RECREATION based activity where students will learn and practice the fundamental skills of soccer. Students will develop techniques in dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive play while also strengthening coordination, agility, and overall physical fitness. They will participate in team-building exercises, small-sided games, and strategy sessions that enhance communication and collaboration on the field. Students who excel in this course may be invited to join a LEAP Soccer Team that will participate in scrimmages and matches against other schools.
Basketball Drill Clinic is a SPORTS AND RECREATION based activity where students will practice the fundamental Basketball skills. Students will be exposed to team-building, and skill building drills that enhance physical performance, motor skills, hand-eye coordination, communication and teamwork skills. The students who excel in this course will be invited to participate on a LEAP Basketball team that will participate in scrimmages and matches against other schools.
Volleyball Drill Clinic is a SPORTS AND RECREATION based activity where students will practice the fundamental Volleyball skills. Students will be exposed to team-building, and skill building drills that enhance physical performance, motor skills, hand-eye coordination, communication and teamwork skills. The students who excel in this course will be invited to participate on a LEAP Volleyball team that will participate in scrimmages and matches against other schools.
Dance is a LEADERSHIP based activity where students will explore fundamental and expressive movement across a variety of dance styles. Students will practice core techniques, rhythm, flexibility, and coordination while also building confidence, creativity, and teamwork. Throughout the course, students will learn choreographed combinations, understand musicality, and collaborate to create original routines. The course will end with a Showcase Performance where students will present a polished group piece for families and attendees.

TUESDAY / THURSDAY COURSES
LEGO Robotics Lab is a STEM based activity where students will explore the foundations of engineering, coding, and problem-solving through hands-on LEGO robotics challenges. Students will learn how to build and program robots using sensors, motors, and block-based coding systems. They will practice critical thinking, collaboration, and design principles as they work through missions that require creativity and innovation. Throughout the course, students will test, revise, and improve their robot designs while learning how technology can be used to solve real-world problems. The course will end with a Robotics Showcase where students will demonstrate their completed projects.
Visual Art is a LEADERSHIP based activity where students will explore the fundamentals of painting while studying influential art styles from various historical eras. Students will learn essential techniques in color theory, brushwork, composition, and mixed media, while also developing leadership skills such as creative decision-making, project planning, and peer collaboration. They will examine artistic movements such as Impressionism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and more, and create original works inspired by each period. Throughout the course, students will take on leadership roles by guiding group projects, presenting artistic concepts, and giving constructive feedback. The course will end with a Gallery Showcase where students will curate and present their own exhibitions for families and attendees.
Cosmetology Cosmos is a LEADERSHIP based activity where students will practice skills needed in the Cosmetology field in both Hair and Nails. Students will be practiced and have the ability to start a "pop-up shop" - focusing on branding, pricing, exceptional service, and other elements needed to be brand ambassadors. The course will end with a "Pop-Up Shop" at the showcase event providing services to students and families.
Master Cook is a STEM based activity where students will explore the basics of Culinary Arts. Students will explore a variety of cultural foods, as well as be able to effectively read, record, and modify recipes. Students will also understand how to measure, control heat, nutritional facts, and healthy eating. The course will end with students providing samples of their completed recipes for attendees of our showcase event.

FRIDAY COURSES
Student Government is a LEADERSHIP based activity where students will be able to explore what it means to be a part of a student governing body. Students will be exposed to effective data collection, public speaking, event planning, and treasury tasks. The student government will also practice effective listening by routinely surveying the student body and bringing concerns to the LEAP at MS51 Leadership Team. The course will end with the effective support and planning of our showcase and a handoff of student government roles to the "next generation" of officers.
Movie Critics is a LITERACY based class that observes large themes through the lens of digital film. Students will be exposed to award winning films to dig deep in its meaning. Students will practice critical thinking by practicing discussions of ideas and the deeper meaning behind each film. The course will end with a display of written review content of each of the films students have watched.
Open Sports is a SPORTS AND RECREATION based activity where students will be able to select a sport of their choice. Students will be able to learn the rules, safe play, and boundaries of each sport. Instructors will be present to assist students with their physical, social-emotional, and peer relationship goals.

Valkyries VBC - Valkyries VBC is a SPORTS AND RECREATION based activity where students will participate in intensive volleyball activities. Students will participate in an official volleyball team that will compete with other schools and CBOs. Students will be exposed to team-building, and skill building drills that enhance physical performance, motor skills, hand-eye coordination, communication and teamwork skills. The course will end with a Finals match with other programs for our showcase event.
LEAP@MS51 is currently in search for new talent to increase our activity offerings, and add more flavor and flare to our program schedule!
