How and When to Fill out the FAFSA
To receive any sort of financial aid, even some non need-based scholarships, from colleges and universities, you must submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Current seniors who will attend college in 2024-2025 are able to file the FAFSA starting in December, 2023.
You and other contributors (usually one or both of your parents, or possibly a parent and stepparent) will need to create a StudentAid.gov account and obtain an FSA ID. All contributors use their FSA ID to log in to the FAFSA, sign the FAFSA, and access other Federal Student Aid sites.
If your parent already has a FSA ID from completing his or her own FAFSA or completing your sibling's FAFSA, they should use that one.
See the resources below for a link to create your FSA ID and a video to take you step-by-step through the process.
Once you have your FSA ID and you're ready to start your FAFSA: FAFSA link will be posted once released by Federal Student Aid.

TASFA:
Fill out this form if you are a Texas resident but not a US Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Qualifying Non-Citizen. This form is for state aid at Texas colleges.
You will need to submit a copy of your TASFA to each Texas public college or university to which you've applied. See this document for how to submit to various colleges and universities.
CSS Financial Aid PROFILE
Over 400 colleges and universities also require the CSS Profile to determine a student's eligibility for their scholarships.
Go to https://cssprofile.collegeboard.org to access this document.
You should check your colleges' websites under "Financial Aid" to see if this document is required and the due date.
It is not required for any public college or university in Texas.
