Optional Extension Activities

• Go visit: Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential library:  This local museum is a treasure and is located nearby at the University of Texas in downtown Austin. LBJ was the 36th Presidnet of the United States, 1963-1969, who was pivotal in the many changes that happened 1960-1974.  He brought a vision of "The Great Society" to the White House and signed over 200 landmark laws on topics including civil rights, social justice, poverty, environmental beautification/conservation, support for the arts, urban renewal, and the exploration of space to make his vision come true.  

• Make a family connection:  Student's learn best when they can make a personal connection to what they are learning and connecting. What was life like for your child's relatives 1960-1974?  What were the social norms for your relative's part of the world at that time?  What was the clothing, food, toys, technology life like at that time?   What was their country struggling with?  What was important to them?  Help your child connect with an elderly relative or family friend to ask these questions.
