About the Learning Model

Leander ISD’s commitment to achieving the highest standard of instruction for all students is paramount to realizing our vision: “The #1LISD community cultivates each student individually to produce the most sought after creators of our future world.”

In 2003, high-quality instruction was defined through the creation of one of LISD’s guiding documents, the Learning Model. In 2017, a steering committee of teachers, campus leaders, and district leaders was formed to review, update, and deepen the Learning Model, as well as create a comprehensive framework to guide our system in effectively enhancing student learning.

The Learning Model is intentionally structured with all components centered around a Focus on Student Learning. The outer black ring represents the beliefs and philosophy that underpin our entire system. Layered upon that, the gray ring represents campus and district processes that support student learning. The red ring represents the learning environment of our classrooms and district, one of the most critical elements that enables all students to flourish. With a strong and supportive learning environment in place, the classroom processes of curriculum design, assessment, and implementation can successfully impact student learning. In its entirety, Leander’s Learning Model depicts how the district, campus, and classroom work in concert to achieve a focus on student learning.

While each item identified in the Learning Model communicates what is expected throughout our system, this accompanying framework website clarifies the concepts defining what they are, why they are important, what they look like, and supporting resources and tools.
