Learning Objectives

What is this?

Learning objectives convey to students what they are expected to learn and provide reference points to guide learning and measure progress. Learning objectives often take the form of learning targets or essential questions.

Why is this important?

The learning objective provides focus and relevance for instruction, empowers students to own their learning, and acts as a success criteria for/of the task.

What does this look like?

• Clearly communicated learning objectives
• Students can articulate the learning objective and its relevance
• Students can describe what mastery of the learning objective looks like as well as how to achieve it
