5th - 6th Grade Transition Activities

HMS holds the following activities to facilitate a smooth transition from 5th to 6th Grade for students and parents:

1. Band & Choir Informational Parent Meeting (Wednesday, January 21st  from 6:30-7:30 PM in the HMS Cafeteria (located at the back of the school).

2. 5th Grade student visits to Henry Middle School:

   1. • Cox & Rutledge Elementary on Thursday, January 22nd.

      • Block House, Faubion, Reagan, & Reed  Elementary on Friday, January 23rd.

3. HMS Counselor visits to 5th grade classes of our feeder elementary schools. Mrs. Reilly, the 2026-2027 6th grade counselor, and Mr. Barnes, the 2026-2027 Assistant Principal, visit Henry feeder campuses to discuss all things Middle School.  Students will also fill out their 6th grade PE/Elective choice sheets.  All 6th graders will select 1 PE option along with 1 elective: 

   1. • January 26: Cox & Reagan Elementary

      • January 27: Reed Elementary

      • January 28: Rutledge Elementary

      • January 30: Faubion Elementary

4. Summer "Hawk Camp" for incoming 6th grade students where they receive their schedules, tour the building, and meet new friends.  Hawk Camp is usually two weeks before school starts in the fall, and more information will be provided once next year’s LISD school calendar has been finalized.
