Does Attendance really matter?
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education – to benefit from teacher–led school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of instructional materials causing them to have to work harder to catch up while slowing down classroom instruction so teachers can help him/her catch up. When your child is absent they lose an opportunity to learn and engage with his/her teachers and classmates.
How many absences are too many? State law requires a student attend 90% of the days class is offered.
Attendance Matters!
Missing a day of school here and there might note seem like a big deal, but absences add up!
When a student misses 2 DAYS a month…
They will miss 20 DAYS in a school year--more than 10% of the school year.
