Does Attendance really matter?
Regular school attendance is essential for students to get the most from their education: to benefit from teacher–led school activities, build each day’s learning on the last, and grow personally.
Missed class time can disrupt a student’s progress, making it harder for them to master material and requiring extra effort to catch up. Teachers have to slow down classroom instruction to help him/her to get caught up.
When your child is absent, they lose valuable opportunities to learn and engage with teachers and classmates, and practice everyday social skills.
How many absences are too many? Texas Education Code §25.092 requires students to attend class 90% of the days the class is offered to receive credit for that class. Students in any grade level from kindergarten through grade 12 may not be given credit or a final grade for a class if they do not meet this requirement.
A student who attends at least 75% but fewer than 90% of the days the class is offered may receive credit for the class or a final grade if he or she completes a plan approved by the principal that allows the student to fulfill the instructional requirements for the class.
In addition, students that do not attend 90% of the days a class is offered, whether excused or unexcused, will be required to make up hours.
**Any student who has been absent more than 8 times for a class in a semester is required to make up hours in order to earn credit for that class. Students and parents will be notified when hours are owed and a plan will be developed with the assistant principal to make up the hours owed.

Attendance Matters!
Missing a day of school here and there might note seem like a big deal, but absences add up!
When a student misses 2 DAYS a month…
They will miss 20 DAYS in a school year--more than 10% of the school year.
