Enrollment
Q: What are my first steps to get started with Dual Credit?
A: Please reference the Enrollment Steps page
Q: When applying to ACC, what email do I use?
A: Use your personal email address, NOT your LISD issued email address.
Q: I can’t log in? (activate ID and email)
A: Activating your ACCeID and ACCemail accounts is a required step for Dual Credit enrollment. Please use the following links to complete this part of the enrollment process.
Activate your ACCeID
Activate your ACCemail
For specific concerns or issues regarding activation of either the ACCeID or ACCemail, please call the Student Help Desk at 512-223-4636.
Q:When’s the deadline to enroll? Register?
A: Technically, ACC's deadline to register* for a course is the day before class starts. There are many steps that need to be completed prior to registration. It’s important to understand the difference between enrollment and registration:
Enrollment - the process by which you become an ACC Dual Credit student
Registration - the process by which enrolled ACC Dual Credit students register for specific ACC classes each semester through their My ACC account.
Please refer to your high school’s College and Career website for detailed enrollment and registration steps.
*Registration dates are determined by ACC; see Academic Calendar webpage for important dates.
Course Selection
Q: What courses can I take at ACC?
A: Refer to the LISD High School Course Catalog (pp. 44-47) for the complete list of Leander ISD & Austin Community College Approved Dual Credit Course. It strongly advised that you meet with your campus College and Career Transition Coordinator to develop an academic plan tailored to your specific goals.
Q:Can I take Spanish 2 or 3 at ACC?
A: SPAN-1412 (ACC Spanish 2) has a prerequisite of SPAN-1411 (ACC Spanish 1). LISD middle school and high school students wishing to enroll in SPAN-1412 requires successful completion of SPAN-1411 as a prerequisite.
From the Austin Community College Course Schedule page: Prerequisite: Students must have completed a first semester college Spanish course of at least four semester hours with a grade of C or better or have equivalent credit by examination to stay enrolled in Span 1412.
Q: I plan to take ACC classes during the school day - how does this work with my high school schedule?
A: You must double-block ACC classes in your LISD schedule*. ACC classes do not adhere to LISD’s A/B block schedule; they meet either Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs. There are no ACC classes on Fridays.
*To align with the A/B schedule, all in-person classes scheduled during the school day must be double blocked in either 1st/5th, 3rd/7th, or 4th/8th periods. ACC classes vary by campus.
Q: Can I have off periods and ACC?
A: Students may not have off periods in addition to ACC periods during the school day. All students are required to have at least 6 LISD classes.
Q: Do I have to attend the lecture and the lab?
A: If you choose to take any course that has a lecture portion and a lab portion, you are required to complete both the lecture and lab for full credit.
Q: Can I take Geometry, Algebra 2 or World History at ACC?
A: ACC is a college institution. High school classes such as Geometry, Algebra 2, and World History are not available through ACC. Those classes are designed to provide essential foundational content at the high school level to prepare students for advanced coursework.
Registration
Q: Why did I get a tuition notification? I thought it was free?
A: While tuition is waived for most dual credit classes, some classes may have a First-Day textbook fee. You must pay the balance before the tuition payment deadline. Failure to pay will result in being dropped from the class.
Not sure if you owe a balance? Log into your My ACC account > Registration & Payments > Pay for Classes > view the current term. If your balance is $0, no further action is required.
Q: Why do I have a registration hold?
A: All ACC students receive an AR7 hold each semester. This hold can only be resolved by going through the necessary enrollment steps with your campus Transition Coordinator* who collaborate with their respective ACC’s High School Programs Liaison to resolve holds. See ACC’s Student Holds list for additional info.
*Only ACC advisors are able to lift registration holds; LISD counselors and College & Career Transition Coordinators cannot remove holds on ACC accounts.
Q: Why was I dropped from a class before the start of the semester?
A: Students are sometimes dropped from ACC classes for the following reasons:
failure to pay an outstanding balance* (including First-day Textbook fees),
class cancellation
registration in a restricted class
*If you are dropped from a class for failure to pay a balance, you may register again and pay your balance promptly.
Academic Impact
Q: What’s the difference between ACC and AP?
A: Please reference this ACC/AP comparison chart.
Q: How will this impact my GPA?
A: ACC classes are not calculated in your high school GPA. ACC classes do count toward your college GPA. By taking ACC classes, you are establishing a permanent college transcript with a college GPA.
Q: Will my ACC credits transfer?
A: ACC credits transfer to all in-state public colleges and many out of state and private colleges. You can view your prospective college's website for transfer equivalency information.
Q: Do I have to accept my college credit?
A: All ACC courses appear on the permanent college transcript. There is no option to selectively accept credit from ACC courses.
Q: Are ACC classes hard?
A: Yes! Dual Credit classes are actual college classes, taught by actual college professors. If you are a student who turns all your work in on time, reads all the course materials, asks questions, and communicates regularly, ACC classes could be a good fit for you.
Q: What if I want to drop a class after the start of the semester?
A: If you drop a course after the add/drop date, a "W" (for withdrawal) will appear on your ACC transcript. Prior to withdrawing from any ACC course, consult with your campus Transition Coordinator. If withdrawing is necessary, refer to the ACC Withdrawals website for instructions; see the ACC Academic Calendar for withdrawal deadlines.
