Hi students!
Today is Thursday and that’s the day we’ve set aside for library! Remember this was a two part lesson so, if you finished it all last week, you are all done.
Otherwise, continue on to the second story and complete the exit ticket.
If you click on the link,
https://flipgrid.com/ldlibraries it should take you to flipgrid. The Password is LDfalcons.
I’ve recorded two versions of a folklore story for you. Folklore is the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories of a community, passed through the generations by word of mouth. Eventually, people starting writing them down and shared them in the written form. This helped save folklore that may have been lost without being passed on. When you look at the stories, take note of the names and the clothing they are wearing. These things reflect the culture of a group. Each story is a “chain Formula” tale because it is a series of linked characters.
First listen to The Turnip, An Old Russian Folktale illustrated by Pierr Morgan. Next, listen to The Giant Carrot by Jan Peck.
After listening and viewing the two stories compare and contrast the two stories. What was the same and what was different? Do this by filling out the Google Exit form at https://forms.gle/Q4CEtE71LdSVfQJP9
These two stories are found in the nonfiction section of the library, in the 398 section, where you will find customs and traditions.
On flipgrid, you will also see other stories by the other Lower Dauphin librarians on the same site. So sit back, connect and enjoy the stories! Miss you!
