Principles of Engineering (POE) is one of two foundational courses in the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) high school pre-engineering program. Through problems that engage and challenge, students will explore a broad range of engineering topics, including mechanisms, the strength of structures and materials, and automation. Students develop skills in problem solving, research, and design while learning strategies for design process documentation, collaboration, and presentation.
To take POE, you must have taken and passed IED. In this course, you will employ engineering and scientific concepts to solve engineering problems. You will develop problem-solving skills and apply your knowledge of research and design to create solutions to various challenges that increase in difficulty throughout the course. You will also learn how to document your work, and communicate your solutions to your peers and members of the professional community.
