No paradigm has moved our school and school community more that the Paradigm of Change. As we initially entered the Leader in Me process, our teachers and staff were very focused on the old paradigm: how to teach the 7 Habits, how to develop Leadership roles, and how to make it fit into the system of what we were already doing. That changed immediately when we went through the very personal 7 Habits training. Over that time, our teachers and staff looked inward and embraced the belief that “change starts with me.” Over the last three years, we have seen tremendous improvement in teacher efficacy, in team efficacy, and in student performance. As the teachers have lived this paradigm, the results have been modeled to our students and their transformation has been significant, as students are now modeling their learning and understanding to their peers and their parents. Students in grades K-5 plan, prepare, and lead morning meetings each day, create personal and academic WIGS, chart their progress in their Leadership Binders, and monitor that progress along with their accountability partners. Student accountability carries through to parent conferences as students lead their own parent conferences and discussed goal attainment and personal mission statements with their families. Finally, families are encouraged to develop family mission statements and last year, over 250 families developed and displayed family mission statements at our school. Through our Student Lighthouse team, students are able to communicate ideas to improve our school to school leadership and monitor the progress of those changes.
