Travis Owens
I was born and raised in Spotsylvania County. After graduating from high school, I went to the College of William and Mary, where I majored in History and Government. I graduated in May 2004 and started Appalachian School of Law in the fall of 2004. I graduated from law school in 2007. During the summers in law school, I interned with the Attorney General’s Office, with the Office of the Solicitor General. After passing the Virginia State Bar, I started working at the Danville Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office as a prosecutor from 2007 until 2009.
I was hired by the Loudoun Commonwealth’s Attorney Office in 2009, where I worked until December 2015. While in Loudoun, I tried cases in all three courts, Juvenile and Domestic Relations, General District, and Circuit Court. During that time, I handled all types of cases from minor traffic matters to murders and other crimes of violence. I was also responsible for training and education of law enforcement and oversaw the asset forfeiture program.
Following the 2015 elections, I was hired as the Senior Assistant in Culpeper, County. I have since been promoted to Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney. I still handle a full case load in all courts, oversee the asset forfeiture program, train officers at the local and regional level, and supervise the 6 other attorneys in the office, as well as the support staff.
Outside of the office, I am the president of the local bar association, coach little league baseball and soccer, and do volunteer work with other local organizations. I have two children ages 8 and 6 and a dog.
