Leadership Development Opportunities
"Earning to Live, Living to Serve"
The FFA Motto provides a simple statement of our goals: through our skills we will serve and lead others. Louisa FFA provides opportunities for students who want to give back to a community that gives so much. Instilling these servant and leadership values in our members is important as they develop themselves as young leaders.
Use this page to navigate leadership opportunities. Primarily, this page hosts community service events, chapter committees, and leadership conferences. Keep checking for new events each month!
Louisa FFA Chapter Committees
Chapter FFA Officers are not the only ones with decision making power! The National FFA Organization is a student membership-led organization, meaning the whole membership (which includes chapter officers, student leaders, and active members) all have the right to vote in business meetings and serve on committees. Here are a few reasons why you should join a committee:
You want to serve the chapter but are not able to commit to an officer position
You are looking for ways to be involved, especially if in preparation for a chapter officer position
You have skills relating to the committees needs
You are passionate about growing the organization and being a part of the chapter's progress
You see a need and want to help
You're an FFA member!
Typically, committees are appointed by the President, however at Louisa FFA, we like to gauge interest from any members who wish to serve. See the types of committees below and let an officer know which committee you'd like to serve on!
Scrapbook and Decoration Committee
Students will work, typically in coordination with a Chapter Historian or Chapter Reporter chair person, to prepare the chapter scrapbook. This scrapbook is not only on display at the FFA banquet as a record of our year's events, but is submitted at the Virginia State FFA Convention to compete for a bronze, silver, or gold prize. This committee is available throughout the school year to keep up with the work load.
In addition, this committee is designed to use their crafting and artistic skills in updating the FFA bulletin board, making flyers and posters, hanging up flyers/posters, folding programs, or helping with events involving decorations such as the homecoming parade, trunk or treat, and banquet.
Banquet Planning Committee
The banquet planning committee does what is obvious.. helps plan banquet! This committee will start early in the spring semester. The committee will work on a slide show, event program, menu, decoration list, invitations, door prize donations, and the script. The committee can arrive prior to the start of banquet and stay after to help clean up.
Fundraiser Committee
This committee will serve along with the Treasurer chair to make any preparations or follow up on the fundraisers throughout the year. Members might make flyers, create spreadsheets, count money/receipts, assist with customer pick up or delivery of items, sell at the farmer's market or other vendor locations, and more. Note that students will not be responsible for collecting money without supervision or depositing money into school accounts.
