This mural is located in the Northwest corner of Grand River in Detroit by the artist SINTEX. Rosa Louise McCauley born on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her parents, James and Leona McCauley, separated when Parks was two. Both of Parks' grandparents were formerly enslaved and strong advocates for racial equality; the family lived on the Edwards' farm, where Parks would spend her childhood. Parks' childhood brought her early experiences with racial discrimination and activism for racial equality. In one experience, Parks' grandfather stood in front of their house with a shotgun while Ku Klux Klan members marched down the street.
On December 1, 1955, Parks was arrested for refusing a bus driver's instructions to give up her seat to a white passenger. She later recalled that her refusal wasn't because she was physically tired, but that she was tired of giving in. Her bravery led to nationwide efforts to end racial segregation. Parks was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Award by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. On October 24, 2005 ,Rosa Parks died of natural causes at the age of 92, in her apartment on the east side of Detroit.
Trayvon Benjamin Martin was born in Florida on February 5, 1995. Martin attended many public schools in Florida. Martin spent his third high school suspension visiting his father, whom he was close to in a gated community, The Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sanford, Florida. In response to a high number of robberies and burglaries, the residents of the community established a neighborhood watch in September 2011. George Zimmerman, one of the residents, was selected as the program coordinator. He regularly patrolled the streets and was licensed to carry a firearm. From August 2011 to February 2012, Zimmerman had called police several times to state he had seen individuals whom he had deemed as suspicious. All of the reported figures were Black males.
On the evening of February 26, Zimmerman saw Martin, who had left the house to purchase Skittles and iced tea. From his SUV, Zimmerman called the police department to report a "suspicious guy," walking between homes and starting to run. The dispatcher told Zimmerman not to get out of his car and follow Martin, with Zimmerman disregarding instructions and pursuing the teen. Trayvon was on the phone with his girlfriend when he was spotted by Zimmerman. She stated that Martin noticed that he was being followed by someone and he began to run. Martin and Zimmerman, encountered each other in circumstances that have remained mysterious and conflicted, with someone calling out for help multiple times in a short time span. The confrontation ended with Zimmerman shooting the unarmed teenager in the chest. Zimmerman was charged with second-degree murder. But later in 2014 George was released due to the fact that there was not sufficient evidence that Zimmerman intentionally violated the civil rights of Martin. Trayvon Martin’s death sparked a movement that lives on still to this day, and that is #BLACKLIVESMATTER.

We thought we'd show you how art can have a huge impact especially for the BLM movement. So, there are so many ways to be creative and express yourself and show how you feel. Each artist has a different take on their work which can inspire other artists to be creative and pay attention to detail. Art is definitely a great way to spread awareness from painting walls to streets or even putting up personal art on social media. All these have such a great impact on the BLM movement and we can't even express how much change we need right now in these difficult times. But what we can do is stand together and have each others backs and keep spreading awareness and hope the message gets through.
