What are the requirements to join the board?
No requirements besides filling out the application in its entirety.
When can I apply? What do you mean by "ongoing recruitment"?
Whenever! We are accepting board member applications on a rolling basis. Once you apply, you will enter an applicant pool. Whenever the board is interested in bringing on new members we will review all applicants in the pool.
What happens after I apply?
Whenever the board is interested in bringing on new members we will review all applicants in the pool. We will first reach out to you to confirm your continued interest. Then, you may be invited to participate in a short interview with current board members.
We only fill 1 - 3 board seats at a time so that we can properly onboard and integrate new leadership members. If you are not selected in the first round we will hold onto your application for consideration in a future round.
Are there any specific skills that the board is looking for from new members?
Yes! We are especially looking for support in the following areas. See "About the Board" for more information about what board members do.
Community Engagement: player and community communications, organize social events, social media/website management, establish new partnerships and ties within our community, lead diversity/equity/inclusion initiatives
League Logistics: event coordination and planning, communication, coaching and/or leading drills, refereeing and/or strong familiarity with game rules.
Operations/Development/Budget: governance, budget development and management, grant writing, fundraising, policy development, strategi planning, sponsorship, and/or relationship building with community partners.
I don’t have any board or nonprofit experience, can I apply?
Absolutely! This would be a great fit for someone wanting to join a board for the first time or get non-profit leadership experience. We only ask that you can agree to the time commitments.
Do I have to play soccer / play in the league to be on the board?
No! Everyone in our community is welcome to submit an application and we will not exclude people if they don’t play in the league or don’t have the ability to. Everyone’s input is valued.
What kind of support can I expect as a new board member?
We will provide 1:1 and group onboarding and you’ll be able to shadow for the first month or two. We will also provide a two month trial period for you to get the hang of things and if it doesn’t end up being a good fit you can step back. Besides that, we try to create a supportive environment that uplifts new ideas and new ways of doing things.
