Better Jobs Ontario Readiness Course
Better Jobs Ontario is a program funded by the Government of Ontario to provide eligible applicants with:
skills training for in-demand jobs
financial support
The Better Jobs Ontario program focuses on supporting access to training programs that take 52 weeks or less to complete. It used to be called Second Career but the government changed the name of the program to Better Jobs Ontario.
The object of the course is to help you source and prepare all the documentation needed for a Better Jobs Ontario application. It also focuses on helping you assess whether you have the skills and the commitment needed to transition to a new career.
Thoughout this course, there are several forms you will be filling out that will become part of your Better Jobs Ontario application. There are also 2 other forms that need to be included in your Better Jobs Ontario application:
The Job Search Tracking Form is required to demonstrate your job search activity and your need to change careers. You should have completed this form before you were referred to this course. If you didn't do this, make sure you check in with your Employment Counsellor.
The Employment Service Plan is a form you will or would have completed with your Employment Counsellor. The example included is for reference only.
The course is divided into 11 modules. Each module contains:
An overview
Activities to be completed
Links to information and resources you may need to complete the course and your Better Jobs Ontario application (if applicable)
Before you start the course download the Activity Completion Checklist to keep track of the activities you have completed. It is a fillable PDF document. You can print it and fill it in manually or you can save it on you computer and checkoff the activities as you complete them. If you need help with this, ask your instructor.
In order to complete this course you will need:
Access to a computer with an Internet browser
Microsoft Word software
Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader software
A printer
An email account
A quiet and comfortable place to work
Tips for Success
Read the instructions carefully. Before you start the module, take the time to read through the instructions carefully. Make sure you understand what is expected of you and what you need to do to complete the module.
Break it down into smaller sections: Sometimes online modules can be lengthy and overwhelming. To make it more manageable, break it down into smaller sections and set achievable goals for each section.
Create a study schedule: Set aside dedicated time for working on the module. Creating a schedule will help you stay focused and motivated to complete the module.
Eliminate distractions: Turn off notifications on your phone, close unnecessary tabs on your computer, and find a quiet place to work on the module. This will help you stay focused and avoid distractions.
Take notes: Taking notes while you work through the module can help you remember important information and stay engaged with the material.
Use available resources: If the module provides additional resources like videos, quizzes, or readings, make use of them. These can help reinforce the material and make it easier to understand.
Ask for help: If you get stuck or have questions about the material, don't hesitate to reach out to your instructor or counsellor for help. They may be able to provide insights that will help you better understand the material.
Review and revise: Once you have completed the module, take some time to review the material and revise your notes. This will help reinforce what you have learned and prepare you for any assessments or quizzes that may be part of the module.
