What a fantastic start of the year for our newest members of Leigh Academy Dartford. This term we have begun looking at how ‘Our culture and local area may influence our homes.’ This has involved the children exploring different types of houses they may see (terraced, bungalow etc) and the different environments in which we may find homes (countryside, town etc). We then looked at the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears to learn about the different rooms in a house.
We then used our knowledge to create our own houses using different materials.
The children have been trying really hard in their phonics lessons to learn all their sounds and are now using them to read and write simple CVC words such as ‘dog’ and ‘tap.’
In maths the children have been learning about the numbers 1-5 including 1 more and 1 less and the different ways we can make 5 such as 4 and 1 or 3 and 2.
At the beginning of this term we looked at some cultural events such as Diwali and Bonfire night. We thought about how these celebrations may cause changes in our home such as decorating the house, having fireworks, parties etc.
We are ending the term celebrating christmas where the children got to help decorate the classroom, creating christmas crafts and singing christmas songs.
We finished off this amazing term with our performances of our Nativity. The children worked really hard over the weeks to learn all their lines and the songs and did a fantastic job performing it infront of all the parents.
Have a lovely break and we will see you all in the new year.
