EYFS and Key Stage 1
This term has been a fantastic showcase of the creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm of our children in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1. From exploring history and cultures to performing for their families, every year group has embraced new challenges and opportunities for growth. Here’s a snapshot of the incredible learning and achievements across these year groups:
Nursery: Exploring Our Community
Nursery had an eye-opening visit to the local Buddhist Temple, learning about different traditions and cultures as part of their work on understanding our community.
Reception: Nativity Stars and Cultural Explorers
Reception wowed parents with a fantastic Christmas nativity performance, showcasing their confidence and enthusiasm. They also explored local homes and cultures, deepening their understanding of the world around them.
Year 1: Toys Through Time
Year 1 enjoyed a hands-on exploration of old and new toys, comparing the past with the present. The term ended on a high note with a fabulous carol concert, spreading joy to their families.
Year 2: From the Fire to the Future
Year 2 delved into history, learning about the Great Fire of London and exploring significant global events to develop their international mindedness. They finished the term with an exciting project designing futuristic homes, along with a heartwarming carol concert for parents.
We’re so proud of all the children’s hard work and creativity this term. Wishing all our families a joyful and restful holiday season!

Key Stage 2
As we prepare to wrap up another vibrant term here at KS2 at Leigh Academy Dartford, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the incredible learning, creativity, and joy that have filled our classrooms and beyond. From exploring ancient civilizations to meeting a rock legend, it has been a term brimming with unforgettable experiences!
Year 3: Fossil Fun at Lesnes Abbey
Our Year 3 students stepped back in time during their trip to Lesnes Abbey. From digging for fossils to participating in workshops on the Stone and Bronze Ages, their hands-on learning experience was filled with excitement and wonder. The students returned with muddy boots, big smiles, and a newfound appreciation for early human history.
Year 4: From the Maya to Modern Explorers
Year 4 took a journey into the ancient world with a virtual Maya workshop. The highlight? Speaking with an archaeologist, who brought history to life by sharing fascinating insights about uncovering the past. These sessions connected beautifully with the children’s curiosity about ancient civilizations.
A Royal Experience for Year 5
October brought a touch of royal grandeur for our Year 5 students, who had the incredible opportunity to visit Buckingham Palace. This enriching experience gave the children a glimpse into the history and traditions of the British monarchy, sparking awe and curiosity. In addition, the students participated in a virtual session with a criminal lawyer, which supported their Inquiry unit exploring how justice systems guide how we live. It was an inspiring and thought-provoking addition to their learning journey.
Victorian Time Travel for Year 6
Year 6 had the chance to experience life as Victorian children, immersing themselves in a workshop that explored the challenges and routines of the era. From donning period costumes to practicing strict classroom etiquette, it was an eye-opening look at life over 150 years ago.
A Legendary Visit from Jeff Rich
One of the most exciting moments this term was the visit from Jeff Rich, drummer of the legendary band Status Quo. His inspirational workshop for Years 4, 5, and 6 electrified the school and showcased the power of music to unite and inspire. Seeing the enthusiasm on the students’ faces was a reminder of how impactful the arts can be in education.
Celebrating Creativity
Art has taken centre stage this term as well. Our Kindness Exhibition showcased extraordinary talent and inspired a range of entries across the academy. The winning artwork was displayed in a special exhibition at the Junior site and hopefully will inspire the next Claude Monet! Also, a special congratulations to Laura in Year 6, who created the winning design for the Trust Christmas card competition – a well-deserved recognition of her incredible creativity.
As always, the achievements and enthusiasm of our students continue to make us proud. Thank you for your continued support, which makes all these enriching experiences possible. Here's wishing you all a restful and joyful holiday season.
