This year’s Student Government continues to go from strength to strength, with an active leadership group who have helped to encourage high attendance at their bi-weekly meetings.
Well done to the following students who have attended every Student Government meeting this academic year!
Andrew F - 7D, Andi H - 7E, Eliza A - 9A, Ashira B - 11F and Alex A - 9D
In a recent meeting, the group was treated to a special guest appearance from none other than Mrs Smith herself! The Student Government body communicated their ideas for improvements in the school, and they received live responses about the areas which could be actioned immediately!
The next meeting will focus on planning an inter-college competition and selecting charities for upcoming fundraising efforts, ensuring that students have a direct impact on both their school community and wider society.
Six Key Stage 3 students recently delivered a confident and well-structured presentation to governors and external visitors about their experiences as MYP students at LAB. They provided insight into key aspects of school life, including the transition process, literacy, the curriculum, extra-curricular opportunities, behaviour expectations, and the college structure. Each student spoke with clarity and assurance, offering personal reflections on how these elements have shaped their learning and development. Their ability to articulate the impact of the MYP framework highlighted both their engagement with the programme and their understanding of its wider significance.
The main focus of their presentation was how the five school values—Respect, Ambition, Resilience, Scholarship, and Integrity—are embedded in all aspects of Key Stage 3 at LAB. They explained how these values influence both academic expectations and the broader school culture, shaping students’ attitudes towards learning and personal growth. Their examples illustrated how these principles are reinforced in lessons, pastoral care, and student interactions. The presentation was well-received by all in attendance, with governors and visitors praising both the quality of their insights and the confidence with which they spoke.
This year, LAB introduced the Student Passport initiative to Year 7 for the first time, and students have embraced the scheme with enthusiasm. The initiative encourages students to engage fully in their academic and personal development by working towards three levels of achievement: LAB Learner, LAB Scholar, and LAB Ambassador. Each stage recognises their commitment to learning, participation in school life, and demonstration of key skills and values. The passport provides a clear framework for students to track their progress and take ownership of their growth, fostering a sense of motivation and pride.
Several Year 7 students have already earned multiple achievements, demonstrating their dedication and enthusiasm for the programme. Their hard work and engagement are evident across various aspects of school life, from academic progress to extra-curricular involvement. We look forward to rewarding their successes and recognising their efforts in a formal way by awarding some LAB Learner badges at the end of term college assemblies. We encourage all students to continue striving towards their next milestone and making the most of the opportunities the Student Passport offers.
