Dear Parents and Carers,
There is a lot to celebrate for Sancho College as we have made a really positive start to the year. We managed to gather the most merits of any college in Module 1 and have had a continued strong performance in Module 2. At the time of writing, six of the top ten students in the Academy for merits this Module are in Sancho, with particular shoutouts to Rafferty 8B and Sriya 9B who are in 2nd and 3rd position in the whole Academy respectively! As is customary, I look forward to celebrating with our highest merit-holders at our end-of-module Celebration breakfast.
In the final assembly of this term, we will be handing out certificates to the Sancho students who have best displayed our Academy values throughout the year to date. Please do congratulate your child if they receive one of these for all the effort that they are putting in, day in, day out.
When it comes to attendance, there have also been many successes for Sancho college. There was significant Sancho representation at the well-deserved ice-skating trip at Queen’s House ice rink for those students in the Academy with top attendance. A huge well done to all students who have managed to be in school, on time, every day across both Modules 1 and 2. A particular well done to all of 8B, who have the best attendance in Sancho and who have also passed the most Accelerated Reader quizzes as a tutor group!
Y11 Assessments
The last two weeks of this Module mean mock assessments for our Year 11 students. It has been a real pleasure to see the dedication with which our Sancho students have applied themselves in the run up to these mocks, with numerous interventions and revision sessions taking place across the school. There has been a palpable increase in the amount of work being done and the students have shown admirable resilience and scholarship. We are confident that they will be well rewarded for these efforts when they get their mock results in January, putting them on a firm footing to work on their feedback and achieve the results they want by the end of the year.
Individual Shoutouts
It is important as well to recognise lots of the amazing things that our students are doing outside the classroom.
A huge congratulations to Lawrence 9E and Max 8B for flying through the rounds and putting in extremely impressive performances in the British Indoor Karting Championships. Other sporting high achievers include Ethan 11B, who plays volleyball for the London Development and Performance Squad and has been invited to England tryouts in January, and Tate 11B, who has been playing football with West Ham Academy. Suhaila in 7B has won gold in numerous martial arts competitions, across different sports, and was also the winner of our LAB Black History Month Art Competition.
There have also been musical successes to celebrate. Congratulations firstly to Megan 11B for obtaining her Grade 5 Trumpet! Year 9 have been composing their own Blues pieces with lyrics inspired by Black History Month. We have had some incredible responses to this, with a particular shoutout to Sriya, Lily-Fleur, Emily, Margaret and Annabelle in 9B for their contributions. Y11 have also managed to have some fun while working on their GCSEs with their music compositions - Stanley 11B and Zac 11E have been going above and beyond to put together a piece of film music inspired by Michael Giacchino's score for Disney Pixar's The Incredibles and a 90s rock tribute to Guns N Roses and The Stone Roses respectively. Congratulations also to Isaac and Mia in 7B, who were invited to attend a music workshop at Trinity Laban conservatoire.
Finally, Inka and Natalia 8E are working on a LAB Listens podcast, which will be released to LAB students after Christmas, so watch this space!
So many fantastic achievements, and we know this is just the tip of the iceberg! We are extremely proud of all of our Sancho students - if your child has achieved something outside of class, please do get in touch with us so that we can share their successes too.
From the whole Sancho team, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I look forward to the continued successes that I’m sure the new year will bring to our college, and to seeing you all rested and relaxed in January.
